Thucyu of the Modern Galaxy (Thucyan: Thừcyứ Mơzố Íp sơn sơn) is a novel by Thucyan-Vos writer Túfí Shừ, written between 1926 and 1937. It was published in 1938 in Sonosem. The novel has since been translated into Ybon, Vosan and other languages. Although, in Thucyu itself, the novel was first published only in 1961.

The novel tells the story of the Anti-Thearch, who took the form of a man. As the story progresses, Anti-Thearch changes images, traveling around the country and meeting different people along the way. Meetings and interactions with the Anti-Thearch illustrate the problems of the Thucyan society contemporary to the author. Thucyu of the Modern Galaxy is considered one of the best literary works of the Thucyan independence period.

Background

Túfí Shừ wrote the novel under the impressions of the Thucyan Civil War, his participation in it and migration to Sonosem after the end of the war. The first chapters were written before the migration from Thucyu. The first drafts of parts of the novel were written at the front. During that period, he saw endless destruction, poverty and cruelty. In the post-war period, Túfí Shừ traveled through the rural areas of northern Thucyu. The situation in the villages did not improve much after the end of the war. In 1935, Túfí Shừ emigrated to Sonosem. During a trip from Cyhotứnk to Sonosem, he saw an even more dire situation than in the north. It was on this trip, impressed by what he saw in the north and south, that he wrote the rough plot of most of the novel. In Sonosem Túfí Shừ completed the novel.

Plot

Part 1

Near the small town of Ơlùnp, a human body falls from a tree. The body doesn't attract anyone's attention. It lay there for several days and was already beginning to rot a little, until suddenly lightning struck in the middle of a cloudless sky and hit the body. After the hit, the dirty peasant clothes were replaced by the clothes of the Vos capitalist. The body came to life again, and the wounds healed. The previously dead man stood up and began to walk towards the town.

In the city, a mysterious man immediately attracts the attention of others. Town's folk look at him with contempt, which is especially noticeable at the market where he tries to buy fish. Having received only insults from the seller, the man walked away to other stalls, however, suddenly a cry was heard behind him: “Stop the occupier!” A crowd of people from the market ran towards the man, clearly with aggressive intentions. However, at the moments when the crowd should have grabbed him, he disappeared.

Leaving the market with disappointment, the man began to loudly sing the Thucyan anthem. The Vos intelligent costume imperceptibly turned into the national Thucyan costume. Leaving the town, the man began shouting the lines of the anthem even louder, which led to people shouting in response to him asking him to shut up. Coming to the bridge over the river, he shouted the last lines of the anthem and jumped into the water.

Part 2

[a man's journey along the same road along which the Thearch with his armies marched; meeting with Má Nun]

Part 3

[magical show in the parliament; ridiculing greed and servility here]

After an amazing show in the parliament, the man tells Má Nun that he is the temporary physical embodiment of the Anti-Thearch. Má Nun doesn't believe him, considering him just a skilled magician. In response, Má Nun simply laughs. But he didn't notice how the mysterious man led him to the sacred Utist temple. Almost always it turns out to be full of people, but at that hour it was completely empty, even though it was midday. The man led Má Nun to the skeleton of Thearch under glass. He looked carefully at the skeleton until he noticed how all the clothes on the man had disappeared. Feeling neither constraint nor obstacles, man calmly approached the skeleton, after which he turned into a cloud of black dust, which broke through a huge crack in the glass and settled on the skeleton itself. Má Nun fell to his knees and began to laugh madly. Hearing loud laughter, people began to enter the temple and saw Má Nun in front of Thearch's body under glass with a giant crack in the glass. The resulting crowd, thinking that the sitting man was trying to do something with the skeleton, ran towards him and, when they ran up to him, began to beat him severely. In the end Má Nun was beaten to death.
