Ancorub (Rocnaian: ancorub [əŋˈkɒɾʊv]), officially the Ancoruvite Republic, is a landlocked country located in the TBD Valley in Northern Ystel. It bordered by Thraquy to the north, Tullachia to the south-east, Hranloc to the south and Varencub to the west. With a total population of 21,640 people, Ancorub remains the least populated country in Sahar. Ancorub gained independence from the Tullach Chieftaincies on 13th March 2024 making it the second-most recent sovereign state and joint-newest full member state to the International Congress as of 2024.

With a size of 5,075 square kilometres (1,959 sq mi), Ancorub is the second-smallest nation in Ystel in terms of total land area, behind only Upper Stratavar. It is the fifth-smallest in Sahar as a whole, though third, behind Upper Stratavar and Fádalh, not including city-states. According to a 2018 regional census, Ancorub has a population of about 21,640, making it the second least-populous state in Sahar, again larger only than Fádalh, and has the lowest population of Ystel and member states of the Asuran Economic International Oceanic Union.

History

Legend of the founding of the City of Ancorub

Traditional stories handed down by Ancoruvite residents aim to explain the earliest history of their nation in full splendour through legend and myth. The most popular of stories recounts the descent of four herons (Rocnaian: hantat) towards a nomadic outpost, each of which represented a certain trait: nature, prosperity, intelligence, and pride. Upon witnessing the behaviour of the birds, interpreting them as an omen of future power, the ancient nomads decided to establish a permanent settlement.

It is evident that, whilst the main details of the story have remained the same, societal changes in the area have had an effect on certain details. For example, after the introduction of Aroism into Ancorub and its neighbouring clans, the herons were said to have been sent down by Aroe. Gfiewish national footballer and part-time mythological annalist Jfogka rfkl trguswasaka logs further variations in the story. One such difference is the exact representation of each bird, with the "prideful" heron sometimes being labelled as symbolising violence or military victory.

Ancorub's current flag, depicting the four mythological herons, adopted on 24th May 2024

As a region of the Tullach Chieftaincies, Ancorub had its own flag, combining the common Ystelian cross with Rocnaian colours. The cross was superimposed on top of a couped white saltire, which gave the appearance of an eight-pointed star in reference to Aroism. HAving been designed by Tullach designer Ruga Solíns t:Acca, the national flag fell out of favour with locals who viewed ii as a banner symbolic of Tullachia, rather than anything uniquely symbolic of Ancorub.

In May 2024, a new design was drafted, incorporating the nation's founding myth. It was quickly and unilaterally approved in Parliament and was officially adopted on 24th May 2024. Each heron holds an object to identify what they represent: a wheel, a bomb, a globe, and a citrus fruit. The prideful and natural herons also hold a fishtail and a frond respectively.

The flag's colours are specified and codified under the 2024 Flag Act, which saw the new design be officially encoded into Ancoruvite law. The official colours and their approximations in other colour spaces are listed below:
