Lugida (IPA: /lugida/, Lithian: lugida, /lugida/), officially the Federation of Lugida, is a federal republic of 7 states, including the capital region. Lugida spans a land area of 431,933 square kilometers, and as of 2017, has a population of around 74 million, giving a national population density of 171 people per square kilometer. It is a federal presidential republic with a representative democracy, with the city of Natlia as the capital as well as the largest single city in Lugida. Other population centers include Kirni, Kitlimis, Lumine, Dalshabet, Melunebet, Mairastra, and Wilie.

Lugida is a highly urbanized country, at 86%, out of its population of about 74 million. Much of the Lugid population lives at the coastline, notably in the regions of Kitraga and Delan. The country itself is divided into 2 native ethnic groups, the Lenthiris and the Melunes, commonly separated by the Natika-Wadi border. However, the entire coastal Lugida is actually Lenthiri-dominant, with the city of Lunka as the sole exception.

Lugida spans an area of about 431,933 km², mostly in a humid subtropical climate, with a small span of a continental climate at the northern part of Lugida, which includes the city of Melunebet, and a small span of Mediterranean climate by the Amiyant coast, which includes the city of Dalshabet.

Etymology

The name "Lugida" comes from the Lithian words, Luget "blue" and Gida "land". Thus, Lugida is literally "land of the blue". The "blue land" name is chosen during the formation of the Federation in 1888 as the Lugids in common have historical ties with the color, which is described as "the color of natural harmony". The name is also chosen under the purpose of uniting the Lugids, who had been mostly divided prior to the Federation's formation.

Geography

Lugida is located in the south-central portion of Southwest Miraria, by the Amiyant Sea to the south and the Gulf of Sharkunen to the east. It borders Yerlan at the northeast, Xynderland at the south separated by the Amiyant, Solesia at the west by the Amiyant, and Naria at the north. The north is also bordered by the northern part of the (Mountains), a mountain range which extends from Mount Lenthir through Mount Nidarum and until the convergence near Mount Bevasejerna. Given its border shape, it is often referred in Lithian as De Lanie ("The Rabbit").

Climate

Much of the Lugid is within a humid subtropical climate. There are some patches of continental climate, which covers the cities of Melunebet and Nizen and the regions north of it. There is also a patch of Mediterranean climate on the Gulic coastline, which extends from Gulimedes to the Lugi-Solesian border.

Lugida has an annual average precipitation of around 1100 mm. Higher values are observed on the eastern regions of Natika, with an annual average of around 2000 mm. The area around Mount Nidarum, in the other hand, is the least precipitated region. One of the most arable areas of Lugida are located by the (River), by the Lugilik-Wadi border, with the volcanic activity of Mount Nidarum being credited to the high arability of the region. Another is located by the city of Mairastra, which has a just-right amount of precipitation, alongside its location by the (River). There is also the Lenthiri highlands, located near the modern cities of Kiva and Wilie. Lugida has around 30 percent of arable land, with the state of Wadi having the most of arable lands in Lugida.

Economy

Lugida is a mixed economy with a nominal GDP of well over $3 trillion dollars. This high GDP is mainly attributed to Lugida's export driven tiger economy and the rapid industrialization that began in the 1960s, which propelled Lugida into one of the most powerful economies in Sahar.

Historically, Natlia is a trade center, as luxuries mined from the Lenthiri mountain range came in large quantities. On the other side, the northern Melune region is known for its mastery on agriculture, which created an abundance of crops, as well as spices and herbs, thus making Kirni a trade center. The two cities, even to the modern day, are known as the economic capitals of Lugida.

The advent of Lugid economy only came in the 1960s, as Lugida, which just recovered from an economic downfall due to the Great Ekuosian War, begins its rapid industrialization. This includes a radical change in Lugid education system, which also shapes the government itself in the process, and turned Lugida into an export-oriented economy. The era saw the rise of companies like Halden, and Delphi, which now specializes in electronics, which later became one of Lugida's largest companies. Due to its, Lugida at the time changed from an old domestic-dominant economy to an export-dominant tiger economy, with the main focus on becoming a technological powerhouse. Other notable Lugid exports include software, video games, cellphones, electronic components, cargo ships, and automobiles.

Lugida's agricultural sector, in the other hand, still plays an important role in Lugid economy, as cities like Mairastra specialized in food production, particularly on grains like wheat. Lugida itself was historically an agriculture-dominant economy, as the Wadi plains flourished the plantations and farms. Currently, Lugida is one of the largest wheat producers on Sahar. Lugida is also notable in spices, although its production quantities got reduced, as modern-day Lugid farmers have started to stray out of agriculture. This made food the most imported item in Lugida, and caused traditional farmers, especially those from Melunebet, to question the food sustainability of Lugida.

Under the administration of the Lugid president Felufre Kirne, Lugida started to optimize its small and medium-sized enterprises (SMBs), particularly to address the issue of infrastructure and development in the mostly less developed inner areas of Lugida, with cities like Lazara and Sharum serve as the role models for the optimization program. Felufre Kirne stated the reason for the favor of SMBs, that "Creating a business is hard in Lugida, unless you're rich or influential". Felufre Kirne also mentioned the problem with Lugid economy, which "favors capitalism". The movement saw some notable successes, however it created a political rift within the Lugid government, which is mostly composed of the economic elites.
