The Holy Shanyedate (Vosan: Dåza Canêdaîs [dɒza ʃanjedajis]), officially the Holy Shanyedate of the Urone Valley, was a political entity in Western Vaniua based mostly in northern modern-day Vosan, around the Urone River, which lasted from its founding in 973 to the Thasveryim in 1799. Given its strategic location between the Gulf of Sharkunen and Lake Melkanchuta, as well as controlling the lake's only way to the ocean, it became a very powerful force and one of the two great empires of Vaniua alongside its contemporary, the Great Horde.

The Shanyedate began following a long period of disunity, wherein the young King of Miye, Avicis I slowly conquered the Urone river valley and laid siege to Ånevem in 973 CE, beginning within these lands a system of feudalism borrowed from earlier Miyan practices of government. At first, it was ruled by monarchs elected for life by the Gandus Dugest (Great Congress) from any of the prominent noble houses and meritocratic practices were utilized, leading to its early success as a polity for roughly 400 years. Circa 1392, it came under control of King Menid of Shavakhotia, becoming a vassal to the Menidian Empire for fifteen years. This would be detrimental to the Shanyedate and cause a period of instability until the election of Bafe I, which brought along sweeping reforms, stretched Shanyedic domains to their greatest extent, and removed the election of shanyedas, instead putting in a hereditary system. This also began the Uronic Becerasi an age of Vos exploration of the seas, with sailors sailing the Gulf of Sharkunen and the Parshita Sea, settling trading posts along Soltenna's coasts and Akulanen. Two more centuries of power, prosperity, and the further spread of Vos culture and ideas followed in this period most commonly called the Bafeid Dynasty. In the 1790s, following an attempted invasion by Vaňudeic Lenezan, republican movements swept the country and ended the Shanyedate with the death of the last king, Coro IV, in 1799, to form the Western Republic in its lands two years later.

Etymology

The earliest attestation of the name of the Holy Shanyedate comes from the early 1000s, with it occurring in an Old Vosan manuscript as "zure Cüdantå Caneğdazyek" or "the holy deity-law"
