Tone

Vowels may have three level tones: high, mid, or low, as well as low-high rising, mid-high rising, high-mid falling, and high-low falling tones.

Phonation

Vowels may have controlled or ballistic stress. Ballistic stressed syllables are short, high intensity, may end in glottal closure, and have modal voice. They are notated as "glottalized" (e.g. /uˀ/) due to the lack of IPA notation for ballistic syllables.

Phonotactics

Ndxiixun has a strict (C)V syllable structure. Neither diphthongs nor consonant clusters are permitted, although vowel hiatus is allowed.
