The Ounyu languages are a branch of the Ngerupic languages, which include many languages of Akulanen and southern Soltenna. The official languages of Magali and Shohai are Ounyu, as well as minority languages in both countries and in the islands of Manea and Quaxin Xun.
The name Ounyu comes from the Wu Eendehen phrase for 'new language', o2 uñu3, adapted into Yatååkåå.
