Dashar (Sarash: Daçar [dat͡ʃat]), officially the Kingdom of Greater Dashar, is a landlocked country located in northwestern Vaniua, bordered by Dorozan to the north, Lenezan and Vosan to the west, Khezan to the south, and Oyazan to the east. It is a somewhat turbulent new country in the area, notable for having an absolute monarchy and minor political instability. The country speaks the Sarash language, related to the Khezian and Badovi languages of Khezan and Oyazan respectively, and it has three distinct dialects of Qannash, spoken in the south and west, Avlosh, spoken in the north, and Von, spoken in the northeast.
The earliest traces of an independent Dashar date back to the 900s CE, something that lasted for roughly a century before it split apart from civil war. Through the 1000s to the late-1100s it would be under the control of the Tamir Khanate before being let go. Another century-long period of independence and prosperity followed before it joined the Holy Shanyedate along with Khezan in 1332, and it falling under the jurisdiction of the Shanyedic Kingdom of Khezan as a vassal. Towards the mid-1500s, it was elevated to being a kingdom of its own alongside the brief Von Kingdom before Khezan's independence from the Shanyedate and subsequent take-over of the territories. It was left under Khezian then later Federated Kingdom possession for a few centuries until Ader's War in 1923, with the lands of Dashar contesting Ader's ascension to the Federated Kingdom throne and instead choosing his brother Caru. It was a long civil war, lasting until 1930, and at the end Dashar successfully gained its independence under the rule of Caru's widow, Queen Eyole. Following that, in 1953 would have a coup to replace the Khezian royal family with a Dashari one, with King Ayu I taking over. Following an attempted coup, there was a minor war with Khezan in the 1970s. Nowadays, Dashar exists as a somewhat shaken nation with not much trust in its government's longevity.
Etymology
Dashar is unique among the Vaniuan countries in that its name sees attestation in Proto-Western Vaniuan, descending from *daskatɔɾi, roughly meaning "Daskanni land." A long-standing name originally for the land inhabited by all Dasic peoples, it eventually became associated with just the Western Dasic or the Sarash people, morphing into Sarash Daçar.
